Candidate Support
In the state of Hawaii, there are many opportunities for National Board candidates to find support.
HTSB currently supports a
Leeward Coast National Board Project in partnership with INPEACE. To increase the number of accomplished teachers on the coast, INPEACE provides financial support to teachers who have demonstrated a commitment to staying in the Waianae Nanakuli complex to work on their National Board entries. The
Hawaii State Teachers Association, in partnership with Kamehameha Schools, provides candidate support for educators pursuing National Board Certification. Contact Lisa Espiritu (HTSB) or Mari Sunabe (Kamehameha Schools) for more information. Support offered includes “NEA Jump Start” 3-4 day seminars in the summer, and virtual cohorts for each component during the school year. Cohorts meet 6-7 times beginning in October and ending in April or May.

National Board Fee Reimbursement and Incentives
- If you wish to request funding or reimbursement from a third-party (external organization), you must select yes to Release Question 1 in your NBPTS account:Do you authorize the National Board to release this information to third-party organizations? This will allow funding agencies to verify your Candidacy Information: Application status (whether registration fee was paid, amount, and date paid), certification details (certificate and specialty area, start and end cycles, retake attempts completed and remaining), component purchase details (whether component fee was paid, amount, and date paid; whether a purchased component was submitted); and certification status (certification issue and expiration dates). No scores will be released.
- DOE NBCTs receive a $5000.00 annual incentive for their accomplishment. NBCTs at schools designated as CSI and TSI schools may be eligible for an additional $5000.00 bonus.
- Teachers who have completed the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) process and received scores for all 4 components are eligible for reimbursement of the initial cost of each component. Those who achieved certification are eligible for $1900.00 reimbursement. Those who didnʻt yet achieve, are eligible for a $1500.00 reimbursement with the remaining $400.00 reimbursed upon certification.
NOTE: Scholarships received for National Board fees are not eligible for reimbursement.
